THE Bulawayo Motoring Club (BMC) will host the first karting event in the city in a two-day meet today and tomorrow. Bulawayo is hosting the National Karting series at the Victoria Falls Road circuit close to Richmond from 9AM today with discounted tickets going for $7 for the entire weekend or $5 per event.

Zane Shah of BMC said competitors would include the junior, mini-rock and senior categories.

“Kart racing is exciting to watch for all age groups. The close and tight racing around corners and changing of positions from the start till the finishing flag really makes racing a non-stop fun filled action sport; all in the clear view of spectators,” he said.

Shah said spectators would be placed at better and safer viewing points.

One of the main features in the bikers’ race is the return of Ian Gutherless to the track marking his first race in Bulawayo in 2015.

He is behind on points having missed two rounds of the national series and would be riding to earn enough points to catch up with the leading pack.

Tomorrow sees the car racing series with the likes of Bulawayo’s Philip Minnaar Jnr taking to the track in his feisty BMW, Jimmy Zevgolis in his quieter Golf and Julian van Vuurren in his Honda.

Darren Pragji will race in his Datsun for the 1600cc class, Shah in his Toyota Conquest, Angelo Tavares in the Open Class Subaru and Peter Parnell in his Turbo charged Golf.

Ross Mckop will make his first appearance in the national race event.
