2 pupils up for exam cheating

TWO Churchill Boys High School pupils have appeared in court after a Form 6 pupil allegedly impersonated a Form 4 pupil and wrote an O-Level Shona paper 1 examination.

Tanaka Mudozori (18), an O-Level candidate and Leon Chimufombo (21), an A-Level candidate, were facing charges of impersonation. They were remanded out of custody on free bail.

The court heard that on December 16, at Churchill Boys High School, the two agreed that Chimufombo would sit for the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Shona paper 1 on behalf of Mudozori who was the registered candidate.

It is the State’s case that Mudozori gave his school uniform to Chimufombo so that he could appear to be a Form 4 student. Sixth formers wear different shirts and ties and long trousers. Mudozori allegedly gave Chimufombo US$3 cash and the statement of entry.

The court heard that Chimufombo then unlawfully entered the examination room without being detected and went on to write the exam for 30 minutes.

Chimufombo allegedly approached an invigilator and she realised that he was not the rightful candidate since she knew Mudozori.

She allegedly asked him if he was the bearer of the names and candidate number and he confirmed he was.

It is alleged that on sensing danger, Chimufombo stormed out of the examination room.

The matter was reported leading to the arrest of the two.
