ALL is set for the inaugural Vusumuzi Mlilo Fun Run that is scheduled for Emakhandeni on Saturday morning. The meet, which will be partly supported by veteran athlete Arnold Payne, will be divided into 5km and 10km categories. The 5km race will be for Under-14 Junior boys and girls and will start at 8AM at Emakhandeni Hall while the senior 10km race will start around 11AM at the same venue.

Registration for all the races is pegged at $1 per athlete.

Event coordinator Mlilo said their objective of coming up with the event was to keep athletics alive in Bulawayo.

“Our idea of coming up with this fun run is to keep athletics alive in the region. We realised that it was only recognised during the first three months of the year and that’s what we want to change because we want a situation where people run all year round,” said the Sparrows Athletics Club coach.

A minimum of 20 athletes are expected to take part, a figure the organisers attributed to the late announcement of the event.
