A 38-YEAR-OLD man has been slapped with a 20 year jail sentence for raping a six year old schoolgirl, a daughter to his neighbour.

Mgcineni Ncube of Sayi village under Chief Malisa in Silobela appeared before Gweru Regional Magistrate Morgan Nemadire facing rape charges.

Ncube pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Five years of the sentence were suspended on condition that he will not commit the same offence for five years.

The magistrate said Ncube was a threat to children and must be incarcerated.

“You took advantage of the age of the complainant and lifted her up into a bush. You’re now a threat to children in society, thus you don’t deserve to be in society but to stay in prison,” said Nemadire.

According to prosecutors, on October 29 last year, the complainant was on her way home from school while in the company of her friend when Ncube approached them from behind.

Ncube asked them their names and they told him.

Prosecuting, Kelvin Guveya, said Ncube lifted the complainant up and took her into the bush after leaving her bag in the hands of her schoolmate.

The girl was raped once and went home.

“Upon arrival at home the complainant told her mother what had happened on her way from school,” said Guveya.
