OVER 200 delegates from across Africa are expected to attend the annual National Sports Convention starting in Bulawayo tomorrow.

Sport and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane is expected to grace the three-day event as guest of honour.

The National Sports Convention fourth edition will attract over 200 delegates from across the region for an insight on a number of developmental issues.

The event, which runs until Sunday, is the brainchild of SCORE Zimbabwe Event and Sports Marketing.

The convention’s spokesperson, Eliah Zvimba, said experienced speakers have been invited to give powerful presentations and the presence of Hlongwane as the guest of honour gives the gathering the value it has earned over the past years.

“We are excited the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Makhosini Hlongwane, will be gracing this year’s convention, which adds to the high-profile line-up of experienced speakers,” said Zvimba.

“Our organisation is trying to bring development to Zimbabwean sport. There is no doubt that sport contributes a lot to the country’s development and we are trying to raise awareness on various aspects of sport so that it helps in developing our country in various aspects.”

SCORE chief executive officer, Peter Mawere, said: “The National Sports Convention has established itself as the central platform for delegates to hear the latest on sport and sport business globally. Now in its fourth edition, this year’s discussion topics taking place starting on Friday until Sunday will focus on ‘Social, Educational and Commercial Impact of Sport.’

“We have officially opened the application process for future host cities for 2017 and 2018 and we are inviting cities to apply and take advantage of the opportunities gained by being involved in this unique event”.
