Town council employees apply for leave ‘to avoid police probe’

ZVISHAVANE Town Council employees are reportedly applying for leave in numbers in a bid to evade police investigations on the abuse of housing stands by councillors and council management.
The most affected department is that of Housing and Community Services where the acting Director, Mr Abie Phiri, has since been arrested over allegations of corruptly allocating stands to friends.
Phiri, who is out of custody on $50 bail, is jointly charged with the town council chairman, Clr Alluwis Zhou.

Twenty-six Congolese including 16 minors who reportedly entered the country illegally, are being accommodated at the African Methodist Church in Bulawayo’s Makokoba suburb.
The 26 are members of three families and the youngest child is two years old.
