Open air worshippers to use beerhalls
Chronicle ReporterOPEN air churches, a majority of them belonging to Apostolic sects, will soon worship in Bulawayo City Council’s non-functional beerhalls to curb the spread of cholera and typhoid, councillors resolved.
Debating during a full council meeting on Wednesday, the councillors also agreed to defy a recent Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture directive banning the use of schools for activities that are not school-related.

Malawi president suffers heart attack
MALAWI’s President Bingu wa Mutharika was yesterday reportedly rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital in the capital Lilongwe, after suffering a heart attack.A Malawian radio station, Zodiak, announced that President wa Mutharika was rushed to the country’s main referral hospital where he was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Malawi president Bingu wa Mutharika ‘dies’
MALAWI president Professor Bingu wa Mutharika who suffered a cardiac arrest Thursday morning is reportedly dead. However there hasn’t been any official communication from the country’s government so far.
Former head of state Bakili Muluzi Friday morning held a press conference at his residence urging government to come out in the open about the president’s condition whilst calling for vice president Joyce Banda to assume leadership should Professor Mutharika be declared unfit to hold office.
Malawi Voice quoted Dr Muluzi urging Malawians to be patient as the country awaits official communication from government on the death rumour.
President Wa Mutharika was hospitalised at Kamuzu Central Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on Thursday and was later flown to South Africa for further treatment.
EMA raids city firms
Chronicle ReporterTHE Bulawayo City Council has been fined $5 000, while a number of companies have been fined up to $1 000 for environmental crimes that result in the pollution of Umguza River.
The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) also fined a number of leather tanning companies in the Belmont industrial area, for releasing untreated toxic chemicals directly into the environment.
The toxins reportedly end up in Umguza River, via the city’s storm drains, where they can cause
