The Judicial Service Commission will on Monday hold its official opening of the 2015 legal year ceremony in Harare and Bulawayo. The ceremonies will be held in Harare at Mashonganyika Building, which houses both the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, while in Bulawayo the ceremony will take place at the High Court.
Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku will officiate and deliver a keynote address at the official opening ceremony.
Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Zanu-PF Second Secretary and Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, high-ranking Government officials, members of the legal fraternity and diplomats are expected to witness the event.
The ceremony in Harare will run concurrently with that at the Bulawayo High Court.
In an interview, Chief Registrar Mr Munamato Mutevedzi said the Chief Justice would use the occasion to address the nation of the state of courts in the country and other activities in the Judicial Service Commission across the country.
“On Monday, the Chief Justice will officially open the 2015 legal year. This is a significant event on our calendar and is of national importance in that it is one of the rare occasions when the judiciary directly interacts with the public outside court sittings.
“The Constitution, Supreme and High Court Acts require that the Chief Justice directs the times and places of sitting of the superior courts every year,” he said.
