2023 pre-budget conference starts

LEGISLATORS have converged in Harare for the 2023 pre-budget seminar, which begins today until next Monday.

The conference is being held under the theme, “Leveraging on Domestic Resource mobilisation to accelerate Economic Transformation.”

The three-day 2023 pre-budget seminar is expected to consolidate the Government’s efforts to transform the economy.

Today, on Friday, Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube will present a session named “Setting The Tone” on the topic “Performance of the 2022 national budget, 2023 revenue and expenditure targets, fiscal framework, economic outlook and the key budget assumptions.”

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Dr John Mangudya is also expected to use the high-level forum to share critical insights on Monetary Policy complementing Fiscal policy towards vision 2030: Implications on the 2023 national budget.

University of Zimbabwe lecturer Professor Albert Makochekwana will present on “Social inclusion: Are we on course to achieve Vision 2030 aspirations.”

Child President Unathi Nyoni will present on “Children of Zimbabwe priorities in the 2023 National Budget.”

Throughout the conference, economic experts, Government ministers and Parliamentary committee heads will table their inputs as well as make recommendations.

The conference will also debate public inputs following recent countrywide consultative meetings where provinces highlighted their areas of concern.

Officially opening the conference, Speaker of Parliament Advocate Mudenda said legislators should ensure development is enhanced in their areas.

“It is critical for us to strategise on how qualitative and quantitative economic transformation can be achieved through leveraging on domestic resource mobilisation.

“As members of Parliament we have to watch out whether development in our areas does benefit the locals,” said Adv Mudenda.
