20kg mbanje lands man in the dock

A 45-YEAR-OLD man appeared in court yesterday charged with possessing 20kg of mbanje with a street value of $2 000. Steven Rukara of Budiriro 3 appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Tendai Rusinahama.

He was remanded in custody to today for ruling on whether he can have bail.

Prosecutor Ms Francesca Mukumbiri said detectives from CID Drugs section received information on Tuesday that Rukara was allegedly dealing in dangerous drugs.

The detectives went to Rukara’s house and questioned him. He then allegedly led the detectives to his bedroom where 25 black plastic bags containing mbanje were recovered under his bed.

The mbanje was weighed at Harare Main Post Office in the presence of Rukara and weighed 19,80kg.
