22 people killed, two injured in road accident

Twenty-two people died last night while two others were injured when a Toyota Quantum they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a truck along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

The accident occurred at the 27km peg near Thandweni Store at around 10 pm.

All 22 people including the driver died on the spot while two people who were in the DAF truck were injured.

The injured are admitted to United Bulawayo Hospital.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident.

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on November 14, 2023, at around 2200 hours at the 27-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road near Thandweni  Store in which 22 people were killed whilst two others were injured when a Toyota Quantum vehicle with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board.

“The injured victims are admitted at United Bulawayo Group of Hospitals. More details to be released in due course,” he said.
