ZIMBABWE’S 222-member squad for the Confederation of University College Sports Association (Cusca) Zone Six Games trooped into camp at the United College of Education (UCE) on Wednesday as they intensified preparations ahead of the event next month.
The team comprises of 177 athletes that will take part in eight disciplines, 14 coaches and 14 managers, as well as 13 members of the management team.
The games have drawn nine countries from the southern African region and will run at various venues around Bulawayo from August 1-6.
“Team Zimbabwe is in camp at UCE where they will stay until they relocate to the Games Village at Hillside Teachers College or Bulawayo Polytechnic when other countries arrive,” said Zimbabwe Tertiary Institution Sports Union secretary-general Olivarth Guvuriro.
The Zimbabwe team is made up of athletes from various universities and colleges in the country, except Lupane State University for disciplinary issues.
Guvuriro said they were expecting other countries to start arriving from tomorrow, although part of the South African delegation is expected to arrive today.
According to Guvuriro, Botswana will bring a delegation of 212 and Zambia 187.
“We will get the other countries’ figures by the weekend,” Guvuriro said.
