25-year-old founds online college

DURING his teen years, Nqobile Moyo developed a great fascination for the Internet.

So great was his fascination on finding solutions to questions about anything, be it scholastic or social material that he hoped to one day be able to establish a platform, using the Internet, to teach other people.

While most of his age mates were content with just Googling delinquent material like porn and games on the Internet, he instead had an interest in uploading information.

A straight A student from pre-school right up to varsity Nqo, as he is warmly known, who is now 25 years old, has founded and established an online college — Bulawayo Online College, living up to his dream to harness the Internet.

“I realised that there was a need for people who don’t have time to go to college to be able or have the chance to study for various courses online. I developed the idea from my childhood dream and now it is a reality,” he said.

A teacher by profession, Nqo studied for a diploma in Information and Technology at the Bulawayo Polytechnic College in 2011 and is presently studying Computer Science with the National University of Science and Technology.

“I felt that I was not realising my dream while I was teaching and decided to have a go at this and the response is quite pleasing. In Zimbabwe there are a few or no colleges that offer professional programmes online. It is only in South Africa where you can find colleges that offer such a service. My vision is for this college to grow into a distinguished university like Unisa,” he said.

Nqo mentioned that the college was also a virtual and teaching institution, where classes for those wishing to sit class could attend.

“I started off as an online consultant for Chinese universities. I would assist those who wanted to do a course on South African Qualification Authority. Where we are today is but a dream come true but we are yet to further develop ourselves into a world class online institution,” he said.

Bulawayo Online College was founded and registered three months ago and offers a wide range of professional courses such as IT, International Trade and Economics and Web designing to mention a few.
