A 25-year-old Bulawayo man who allegedly stabbed a 73-year-old Mabuthweni man with a knife on the stomach before robbing him of his cellphone has appeared in court.
Blessing Ngulube of Mabuthweni suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, on Wednesday facing a charge of robbery.
He was remanded in custody to March 6.
Prosecutor, Ms Cathrine Kuzu told the court that the complainant and accused person are not related.
She said on February 19 at around 5AM the accused person saw the complainant, Mr lven Ngwenya (73), walking near lnsukamini Primary School, in Njube area.
The court heard that the accused person took advantage of the darkness and attacked the complainant, stabbing him twice with a knife on the stomach, searched him and took away his U60 Lite cellphone.
The accused person fled but the complainant managed to recognise him, said Ms Kuzu. A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the accused.
The complainant was referred to hospital for medical attention. The total value stolen was ZAR800 and nothing was recovered said Ms Kuzu.
