PLANS are underway for the construction of a $25 million shopping mall in Bulawayo to be named after the late Vice President Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo.
A key representative for the team behind the project, Mr Kelvin Mazhandu, said some Jewish investors were keen on the project, which is expected to honour the legacy of the late Father Zimbabwe.
“Jewish investors are ready to fund the project with $25 million dedicated to the project and we are still raising more money for this,” he said.
“The mall will be called Mqabuko Plaza because of my attachment with the history of this country, which the late Father Zimbabwe was very instrumental in shaping.
“Secondly, I believe in legacy preservation. The legacy of Father Zimbabwe must be preserved so that it is an inspiration to future generations.”
Mr Mazhandu highlighted that efforts were being made to engage and work closely with the Bulawayo Provisional Minister of State office and the Bulawayo City Council to establish the site for the project.
He added that as the industrial hub of the country it was time for Bulawayo to reclaim its status.
Mr Mazhandu paid tribute to President Mnangagwa for championing economic reforms under the ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ mantra, which he said has enticed investors.
Mr Mazhandu is based in South Africa and has mining and property development interests among other business projects.
Should the project succeed, it will be the second biggest construction in the city after the estimated $60 million Egodini Mall project. — @Kiyaz_Cool
