3 000 women receive free medical services

MORE than 3 000 women from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo received free medical services on Friday at a medical expo organised by Concord for Young Women in Business Global, in partnership with Discovery Ambulance Services (DAS), a new player in the emergency health services sector.

The event proved to be a game changer for the local community, providing women with direct access to much-needed healthcare services.

At the heart of the initiative was the aim to empower and support the well-being of women in the area by also equipping them with basic education on healthcare services.

“We are thrilled to have been able to offer crucial medical services to the women of Cowdray Park. Our mission is to make a tangible impact on the lives of women, and this expo is a testament to that commitment,” said Ms Aphia Nyasha Musavengana Concord for Young Women in Business president.

She said that this is the first time the organisation has held such an expo in Bulawayo, and they are targeting three wards across the province. Ms Musavengana said that the partnership between her organisation and DAS will ensure that women across the country are fully equipped with first aid knowledge.

“We are also targeting women in rural areas. We want to equip women with first aid knowledge as in most cases they are the first responders to road traffic accidents along highways,” she said.

Eight doctors and a dedicated team of nurses held the fort during the intensive one-day expo. The event featured a variety of medical services, including general check-ups, screenings, and health consultations, all aimed at enhancing the overall well-being of the community.

Ms Musavengana noted that DAS partnered with Concord to deliver essential medical care to the attendees. She emphasised the importance of providing accessible healthcare services to under-served communities.

“Our partnership with Discovery Ambulance Services has allowed us to reach out to women who may not have had access to medical services otherwise,” she said.

Ms Musavengana highlighted the importance of prioritising community health, noting that events like these play a crucial role in achieving that goal. She underlined the positive impact of the expo throughout Cowdray Park, with attendees expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to receive quality medical services at no cost.

“Many highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting health awareness and overall wellness within the community. The collaboration between Concord for Young Women in Business and Discovery Ambulance Services exemplifies the power of partnerships in driving positive change and improving access to healthcare services for those in need. Looking ahead, both organisations remain committed to supporting the health and well-being of communities in Bulawayo and beyond,” said Ms Musavengana.

She revealed that three ambulances will be availed to the province and will be accessible at all times for those in need of emergency health services.

“Part of the fleet is being availed in Bulawayo province and will be accessible to all that require or need health services,” added Musavengana.

DAS is on the verge of penetrating the market, making its presence known with dozens of new ambulances equipped with the latest life-saving equipment.

The service is the brainchild of David and Chantelle Munowenyu, who were inspired to invest by President Mnangagwa’s Envoy and Ambassador at Large, Uebert Angel.
