3 perish in Chinhoyi crash

THREE people died while 11 others were injured yesterday when a commuter omnibus they were travelling on veered off the road and overturned at the 135km peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road near Eleven Miles in Chinhoyi.

The accident occurred at around 11am after the kombi driver tried to overtake another vehicle before the vehicle veered off the road.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports a fatal road traffic accident where three people have died when a kombi driver tried to overtake another vehicle at the 135km peg along Harare-Chirundu Road near Eleven Miles, Chinhoyi on December 28, 2023 at around 1100 hours.

“The vehicle veered off the road and overturned once before landing on its wheels. Eleven passengers were injured and referred to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for medical attention.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is saddened by the loss of lives through road traffic accidents in the country. The police reiterates that motorists should be observant and safety conscious on the roads to safeguard lives,” he said.
