THREE Chipinge cattle rustlers were this week nabbed while attempting to cross Save River with six stolen beasts.

Pedzisai Mhlanga, Tadious Mhlanga and Muchacha Mlambo were arrested just before herding the beasts to Zaka in Masvingo District.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident which happened in Chief Garahwa’s area in Chipinge.

“Mavis Sibindi (32) of Chipinge alerted police that there were six beasts which had been stolen from grazing lands. Police later received a tip-off that the three accused were driving the cattle towards Save River and made a follow-up.

“Police received information from villagers that there were six beasts that had been tied to trees. The description of the cattle matched those that had been stolen. They went to the place where the beasts were tied to trees, but there was no-one.

“An ambush was made and the three accused persons were arrested three hours later when they were untying the beasts. They told police that they wanted to take the beasts to Zaka where they would slaughter them and sell the meat,” said Inspector Chananda.
