30 perish on the roads

Ms Melody Billy, Ms Rhodesia’s granddaughter, said it was painful to lose her grandmother through such an accident.
She said the tenant, Ms Chitewe managed to rescue two of her children, but Gogo Rhodesia and Faith Kujeka could not make it.
Ms Chitewe was at pains to explain how her daughter was struck by the truck.
“I do not know how I managed to rescue the two. I only remember seeing Faith and Gogo Rhodesia dead,” she said.
Mr Stanford, Gogo Rhodesia’s husband, said he was at work and was only told of the accident by her granddaughter.
“She was run over by the car while grading her maize. It was so bad that her stomach was ripped open and the intestines came out and she died on the spot,” he said.
Meanwhile Insp Chishaka said 28 people were killed in 208 road accidents recorded throughout the country.
Last year 30 people were killed during the same period.
He said 409 vehicles were impounded and 1 101 tickets were issued out for various traffic offences.
