THIRTY athletes have qualified for the ZITF Four-Minute Mile semi-final set for Gifford High School at 10am today.
Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairman  Manuel Mpofu all was set for the final selection meet that saw qualifiers being held as far as Bindura  during the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) track and field athletics competition.

“The athletes are ready to battle it out for top honours. The Zimbabwe Republic Police and Zimbabwe National Army dominate the athletes    who make the final 30. Most of the athletes have   qualified in good times and the differencesare minor so we expect competition to be stiff,” said Mpofu.

He said the introduction of the semi-finals  meant only the best made it and that will ensure a competitive final set for the ZITF Grounds   tomorrow.

“All the athletes who have qualified for the semis want to be the best. Each athlete  will ensure they put all their effort into  winning because no one wants to be second,” said Mpofu.

Last year’s winner Wellington Varevi who won the race in four minutes 17 seconds to pocket $800 qualified for this year’s semis.
