A 57-YEAR-OLD Honde Valley man has been jailed for 30 years for raping an 11-year-old girl.
Samuel Kubare, of Gondo Village under Chief Mutasa was convicted of two counts of rape and one of attempted rape by Mutare regional magistrate, Mrs Phathekile Msipa.
The court heard Kubare first attempted to rape the girl in July while she was playing in the village, then returned on two separate occasions to her home where he raped her.
The matter came to light on July 14 when the girl told her grandmother, who reported it to police.
In sentencing, Mrs Msipa said rape of a child causes lasting harm and courts must protect vulnerable children.
Kubare was sentenced to 15 years for each rape count and 10 years for attempted rape. The sentences will run concurrently to an effective 30 years.
Mr Last Goredema prosecuted.
