Organisers have secured Ridgewood Park, the University of Zimbabwe and Belvedere Teachers’ College as venues for the championships.
Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) chairman Simon Lawson said yesterday that all was set for the championships.
“We are expecting 21 men’s teams and 13 women’s with selections being done according to the best teams in a province and the number of teams a province has to come up with depends on the number of affiliates in that league,” Lawson said.
Bulawayo is expected to bring five men’s teams and three women’s teams, Harare eight men’s and seven women’s.
Manicaland has four men’s teams and three women’s teams while Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Mashonaland East and Masvingo will each bring a men’s team since basketball is still being developed in those provinces and the total will be 34 teams.
The top two teams from the men and women’s categories will represent Zimbabwe at the Zone Six Club Championships in a country yet to be announced.
Lawson said at there was no prizemoney confirmed for the championships as the union was yet to secure a sponsor.
Meanwhile, the Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) is yet to finalise on teams that will be going for the national club championships.
BBA secretary-general Joe Mujuru said however said the League winners Unicorns, runners-up Highlanders, ALCC and Kings who finished in the top four of the BBA were going to represent the Southern Region in the men’s category.
In the women’s Giants and runners-up Lakers and either Highlanders or MSU will represent the region.
