480 bodies laid to rest in city cemeteries in June

480 bodies were buried in eight of Bulawayo’s cemeteries in June, while five bodies were cremated in the same month, statistics released by Bulawayo City Council (BCC) show.

The burials were done in Umvutshwa, Luveve Old, Lady Stanley, Luveve Extension, Athlone, Luveve Number 3, West Park and Hyde Park cemeteries.

Luveve Extension recorded 249 burials while one burial was done at Lady Stanley.
136 burials were done at Umvutshwa cemetery, six at Athlone, nine at West Park and a single burial at Hyde Park. Luveve Old and Luveve Number 3 recorded 74 and four burials respectively.

Council, in its latest minutes, indicated that some of the bodies buried in the city were received from South Africa, Umzingwane, Umguza and Lupane districts while the others were received from Harare, Gwanda, Matobo, Bubi, Bindura, Mberengwa, Kadoma and Zvishavane.
“Five bodies (two females and three males) were cremated in May 2025,” said council.
