Police have arrested five men accused of indecently assaulting businesswoman Mrs Rudo Boka-Dube during disturbances at the Boka Tobacco Auction Floors in Harare last week.
The five were reportedly hired by the Zimbabwe Tobacco Auction Centre to disrupt renovations that Mrs Boka-Dube and her workers were carrying out at their premises.
The Boka family and Zitac have been at loggerheads over use of the auction floors, which the former built and subsequently let out to the latter.
The five men – Witness Muvengwa, Patrick Kanonda, Leon Bangure, Masimba Gwavava and Doubt Mhike – are accused of indecently assaulting the complainant while blocking her way into the auction floors.
They were not formally charged when they appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Reward Kwenda yesterday and were remanded out of custody to February 25 on US$100 bail each.
Prosecutor Mr Michael Chakandida alleges that on February 17 the complainant visited the auction floors to inspect the buildings and carry out repair work.
As she tried to enter the canteen, the five allegedly blocked her way and started pushing her backwards while touching her inappropriately.
The State says this happened in her employees’ full view.
She reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the five.
Mr Raphael Maganga of Maganga and Company Attorneys is representing the accused.
