6 killed, 12 injured in Mutare-Marange road accident

SIX people died and twelve others were injured when a Mazda BT50 was hit from behind by a haulage truck.

The incident occurred around 1.30 pm at the 35-kilometre mark along the Mutare-Marange road.

The Mazda BT50, which was carrying 17 passengers and traveling towards 22 Miles, had been giving way to a stationary truck at the Marange Turn-off when the collision occurred.

In a statement, National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the haulge truck driver fled the scene after the accident.

Asst Com Nyathi identified the deceased as:

1)Anna Tariro Machangachanga, a 30-year-old female adult from Sakubva, Mutare

2)Joyce Duchi, an adult female from Mushunje Primary School, Mutare

3) Portia Nyamajo, a 43-year-old female adult from Chikanga 2, Mutare

4) Nomatter Hwenzira, a 35-year-old female adult from Mushunje Primary School, Mutare

5) Tsitsi Masuzhe, a 47-year-old female adult from Dangamvura, Mutare

6) Addella Henzira, a 1-year-old female juvenile from Mushunje Primary School, Mutare.

Assist Comm Nyathi said  the bodies of the deceased were  transported to the Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. The injured people are also admitted to the same hospital for medical treatment.
