6 perish in Mwenezi kombi crash

Six people perished on the spot while three others were critically injured after a kombi they were travelling in collided with a haulage truck along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway near Rutenga this morning.

The accident occurred approximately at the 182km peg near Zimbabwe Bio Energy turn-off after the Beitbridge-bound kombi encroached into the opposite lane and collided with a haulage truck going in the opposite direction.

Mwenezi district development coordinator and civil protection unit chair Mr Isaac Mutambara said the the injured were taken to Neshuro District Hospital.

“Six people have been confirmed dead on the spot and three were seriously injured and are in hospital at Neshuro,” he said.

Mr Mutambara said it is still unclear how many people were in the kombi when the crash happened.

“We are still gathering more details about the accident.”

The deceased were taken to Neshuro Hospital mortuary.
