A CHIKANGA high density suburb man landed himself in trouble when he drove a car without a licence and caused an accident at Nyanga turn off along Harare Mutare road, 400 metres away from a police road block.
Appearing before Mutare Magistrate Mrs Annie Ndiraya, Michael Nyamutata (29) of house number 152 Chikanga phase 1, pleaded guilty to the three counts he was facing of driving without a licence, causing a Toyota Hiace to swerve off the road and side swerving a Scania bus.
The court heard that on December 2, Nyamutata drove recklessly when he tried to overtake a Scania bus at Nyanga turn off and he saw an on-coming truck and he swerved back in his lane.
The bus lost control and swerved off the road and he went and hit a Toyota Hiace that was in front of him and the police then rushed to the scene and he was arrested. Two people were injured from the accident.
In his defense Nyamutata said that he was drunk and did not see clear where he was going.
“I was drunk your worship and I tried to overtake the bus that was moving too slow and I am begging for the court’s mercy,” said Nyamutata.
Mrs Ndiraya said that he had acted recklessly driving without a licence when he was drunk and causing an accident by trying to overtake on a blind rise.
He was ordered to pay $200 for each count or face 90 days imprisonment if he failed to pay by 30 December.
He was also ordered not to drive for the next 12 months.
