adminOVER 60 families from Mashobe Village, Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe were left homeless while 12 people were seriously injured when a strong gust of wind destroyed their homes following a heavy storm last week.
The storm also destroyed Sungwiza Primary School in the area leaving pupils learning in open air. Chief Nemangwe confirmed that 64 families from his area were left homeless after their houses were destroyed by the storm. He said some of the families were living in open air, while some were living in makeshift houses and others have migrated to other villages to stay with relatives.The traditional leader said the affected children have stopped attending school.
“What is worrying is that this happened at a time when we were grappling with hunger and serious water problems. This means these people will now have to divert the little resources that they have towards rebuilding their houses. We are appealing to Government to intervene immediately,” he said. — Midlands Correspondent
