elderly people and orphans in Beitbridge District.
About 90 elderly people are receiving assistance from the Department of Social Welfare per month against a background of 22 000 needy old people.
There are 18 489 orphans and vulnerable children, 18 disabled people, 30 vulnerable families and 8 809 people are being assisted with drought relief.
Mr Nguluvhe, who is a director in the department and comes from Beitbridge District, also funded the installation of electricity at Chapongwe Primary School and the repairing of a 17 km stretch along the
Beitbridge-Chapongwe road.
He made the donations at a function held at Chapongwe village on Saturday to celebrate his achievements
since he joined the department.
Mr Nguluvhe challenged businessmen in the district to emulate his efforts and share the surplus they have with the community.
“I hope the maize will help you address some of the food shortages you are facing. As Zimbabweans we must learn to share the little we have with those without. The maize I am giving to you today was donated to me by several friends and I decided to share with the disadvantaged people in the community.
“The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Media Information and Publicity Mr George Charamba has also pledged to give me another two tonnes of maize. This will
also be given to the elderly and children.
“The benefiting schools are Beitbridge Mission, which has a hostel for disabled children, Dumba, Chapongwe and Nuli Primary Schools will get between two and four bags of maize respectively while the rest will be shared among the elderly people aged 65 years and above.
“Furthermore traditional leaders including chiefs, herdsmen and kraal herds will receive an average of 10 bags each which they will give to the needy families in their areas.
“I want to challenge the business community and other luminaries from the district to pull resources together and come up with income generating and developmental projects for the community. Wherever we are lets always think of the elderly and the challenges they are facing.”
Mr Nguluvhe said he would also mobilise resources towards the repair of the Beitbridge Panda mine road which is currently in a bad state.
