79 SUSPECTS NABBED IN MAZOWE

MORE than 70 suspects were on Saturday arrested for various criminal activities in Mazowe.

Among the 79 arrested, four were nabbed for destroying the railway infrastructure.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi reiterated that there is no going back against illegal mining activities, criminal acts and land degradation.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has conducted a massive operation against criminal acts such as murder, robbery, rape, stock theft, among others in Mazowe mining areas,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

“The operation also targeted land degradation, soil erosion, destruction of railway infrastructure, road and water systems.  Police recovered water tanks, 30 excavators, 10 generators and three submissive pumps, seven hammer mills, six windlers and 20 water tanks followung the arrest of 79 suspects.

“Some foreign nationals and Zimbabweans were arrested in Storeys area, Mazowe for alluvial mining which affected the water system and agriculture facilities. “The areas raided by the ZRP include Storeys, Jumbo mine and surrounding areas.

“The ZRP dismantled shebeens and confiscated several kilograms of meat, alcohol, illicit brews and groceries.

“These activities are believed to be contributing to criminal acts in the area,” he said. 

In Manicaland Province, police recovered five generators, several submissive water pumps, 14 excavators, tanks, fuel tanks, three Howo trucks, two Toyota Prados while in Bulawayo, the Police recovered 22 horse power compressor, 14.5 kw compressor, three 3kv generators and three concrete breakers,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
