A total of 87 workers from Tebekwe Mine were baptised on Easter Saturday at the Mkoba South, in Gweru under the Brethren in Christ Church.

The mass baptism marked a turning point for the mine employees, who publicly committed to Christianity, citing the company’s leadership as a key source of inspiration.

“We are adopting Christian lives and transforming our way of living,” said Isaah Kapedzi, one of the baptised workers.

“Our directors live by the Gospel, and seeing their example opened our eyes.”

The workers described the occasion as a break from past lifestyles, with some noting that it had strengthened their faith and commitment to positive living.

“I was someone who loved to drink and be merry, but since coming to work at Tebekwe Mine, I have accepted Jesus Christ into my life and now lead a positive life,” said David Mushangwe.

Mine manager Smelly Dube said the event was a significant milestone for the company, which promotes strong Christian values.

“This day is a culmination of what we have been doing at Tebekwe Mine, holding regular church services and inviting pastors to preach,” she said.

She added that many workers had been on a transformative journey, turning away from substance abuse and embracing faith-based values.

Church leader Trust Marumure described the event as one of the largest mass baptisms he had witnessed, attributing it to divine intervention.

The ceremony concluded with prayers, songs and a celebratory meal hosted by the River Valley Group directors, with the newly baptised workers pledging to uphold Christian values in their lives and communities.
