The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has seized 933 tonnes of maize and 97 tonnes of soyabeans from farmers who wanted to side market the strategic crops.
This comes as the parastatal is intensifying efforts to curb side marketing of controlled crops with GMB this week netting 98 people for violating the GMB Act.
Maize and soyabeans are controlled products whose movement is restricted and should only be sold to the GMB or a registered contractor. Any engagements with other players is not allowed.
GMB officials and the police are enforcing provisions of the GMB Act under which an individual is only allowed to ferry five bags of maize and three bags of soya beans for personal use.
For larger quantities, individuals or corporates will be required to have a valid movement permit issued by the GMB.
GMB has since released the names of the people violating the GMB Act and encouraged farmers not to side market the controlled grains. GMB chief executive, Mr Rockie Mutenha said no one was allowed to sell maize or soyabeans other than through GMB unless if one is a bona fide contractor registered with Agricultural Marketing Authority of Zimbabwe.
