FIVE new towns have been added to this year’s edition of the Carling Black Label National Pool Tournament as sponsors Delta Beverages are committed to growing the competition at grassroots level.
With regional qualifiers already underway Delta Beverages, in partnership with the Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA), have introduced the competition in Plumtree, Chegutu, Nyanga, Chirundu, and Kariba.
Nationals finals have been set for August 9 at a venue yet to be announced.
In a statement, Delta Lagers marketing manager, Kundayi Mawema, has ensured more growth for the competition.
“This year, the tournament is bigger than ever, with five new towns joining the action, the sport has seen remarkable growth with local bars and bottle stores becoming hubs for competitive play.
“These tournaments not only fuel passion for the game but also boosts business for venue owners, making it a win-win for all,” said Mawema.
Mawema said this year’s competition has ignited more appeal among players and communities across Zimbabwe.
“For over a decade, this premier competition has run in partnership with the Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) and has been a driving force in popularising pool at the grassroots level. Regional qualifiers are already underway at selected venues, supported by ZIPA and local traders, ensuring smooth and professional gameplay.
“We look forward to an increase in participants across both the male and female categories, as they battle to win the grand prize,” she said.
This year’s winner will walk away with US$2 500 plus a pool table while the losing finalist takes home US$1,500.
Winners in the third and fourth place play-offs will also pocket US$1000 and US$500 each.
Carling Black Label and ZIPA remain committed to fair play and, as such, they have trained over 60 referees nationwide to ensure the highest standards of fairness and professionalism because only true “Champions at Play” deserve recognition.
