THE 100 Leading Women Investors in Africa Awards was a celebration of outstanding achievements of female leaders in business.

The event was held in Harare.

Among those honoured were Dr Grace Musundirire of Gracelands, Dr Afra Nhanhanga of CAG Tours, Mary Joan Msonsa, Memory Onai Magadzire, Docus Nyikadzino, Nyasha Amanda Chakanetsa, Trish Makaka and Dudu Hassen from Zambia.

Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa, said empowering women investors was a powerful means of transforming communities.

“When we empower women investors, we are not merely supporting individuals, we are strengthening families, transforming communities, and accelerating national development,” she said in a speech read of her behalf by Deputy Minister Kiven Mutimbanyoka.

“The 100 Leading Women Investors in Africa Awards is not just a celebration, it recognises exceptional African women driving transformative change in investment, entrepreneurship, and economic development.  Historically, African women have been the builders of economies and nurturers of communities.

“From agriculture to finance and small enterprises to multinational corporations, they are demonstrating extraordinary leadership, resilience, and vision.

“Unfortunately, many contributions have gone unnoticed. This is why platforms like this are essential.” She added: “Recognising achievers is not simply about celebrating success, it affirms excellence, inspires future generations, and sends a clear message that women’s leadership matters.

“Our continent’s renaissance can only be fully realised when women, who comprise more than half of Africa’s population, are included as investors, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers.

“Their investments often transcend profit to create social value, generate employment, and uplift entire communities.

“Networking among women leaders is especially crucial. When women connect, share experiences, and support one another, they create empowering ecosystems. They exemplify how collaboration, rather than competition, fuels sustainable development.” She said the Ministry was creating an environment for women to thrive.

“Our Ministry is committed to creating an enabling environment for women to engage fully in economic activities, access financial resources, and develop their entrepreneurial skills.”

Key priorities include improving women’s access to finance through various initiatives such as revolving funds, microfinance support schemes, and tailored financial literacy programs. These efforts have already helped thousands of women across Zimbabwe establish, grow, and sustain their enterprises.
