CYCLING across 22 African countries was an adventure of a lifetime for Zimbabweans Thando Tshuma and Vusumuzi Mkandla, but meeting President Mnangagwa has given them another moment they say they will never forget.
The duo, who covered approximately 13 300km on their cycling expedition, met the President in Harare, with Mkandla describing the occasion as a defining moment in their journey.
In a Facebook post, Mkandla expressed gratitude to Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Tino Machakaire, whom he credited with facilitating the meeting.
“Today is a day we will never forget,” he said.
Mkandla said Minister Machakaire had welcomed them warmly despite his busy schedule, listened to their story and guided them towards opportunities that could change their lives.
“Through his efforts we were honoured to meet President Mnangagwa who also took time to listen to our dreams,” he said.
He said he was particularly touched by the minister’s humility and the respect he showed them, adding that Machakaire had promised to attend the handover ceremony of their new home in Machakata Village.
The duo’s 13 300km expedition across 22 African countries showcased the continent’s diverse cultures and landscapes, while placing Zimbabwean travel storytelling in the spotlight.
Mkandla used the occasion to encourage fellow youths to remain committed to their aspirations, emphasising the importance of hard work and humility.
“To our fellow youths never give up on your dreams. Honest work determination and humility can take you places you never imagined,” he said.
