A VISIT to the village often evokes a sense of joy and comfort associated with our origins. I got this feeling when I walked into the Village Lodge, which is located on the Harare-Gweru Highway, as you enter the City of Progress.
As you arrive at the gate, you are greeted by a cheery security guard. Soon after that, you see a gorgeous waterfall that refreshes your mind and makes you forget all your worries. What a sight to behold!
A drinking giraffe sculpture is an intriguing addition to the landscape.
The acacia karoos dotted around the garden make you remember the countryside.

When you enter the reception area, you realise that it is not the end of plant life.
There are different indoor plants that keep you enchanted and in touch with nature. Being hungry after a long journey, I asked for directions to the restaurant. The ever-cheerful guard directed me to a short driveway that passes through the beautiful acacia landscape, and leads you to a secluded location.
Ushering you into this garden is a neat gazebo. A wide pathway takes you to the restaurant.
Water features are prominent in this landscape.

The front part of the restaurant is adorned with a lively fish pond, which might make you forget the real reason you visited the eating area.
The lodge is also popular as a venue for conferences, weddings and team building activities. The place is home to a Chinese restaurant, probably the only one in Gweru.
