GOSPEL artist, Minister Takunda Masikinye, believes that he is a raw gem that just needs polishing.
The 25-year-old told H- Metro, that he now needs recognition for him to flourish.
Masikinye said he started singing at a tender age in primary school.
“I was a 14-year-old when I developed a deep passion for gospel music.
“I would sing praise and worship songs in church and at church conferences.
“Luckily, I was chosen to be a choir master and this inspired me to dream big,” said Masikinye.
His breakthrough came in 2023 when he went for Mavuradonha for a National Youth Camp, where his church hosted a talent show called ‘ECZ Has Got Talent.’
“It was a competition for singers, dancers and instrumentalists.”
“By God’s grace, I won the first prize award in music.
“My church, seeing the talent I have, volunteered to sponsor me to record my first song in 2024.
“I recorded my first song with Antony Gasani called ‘Masimba.”
The song was recorded at G-Art Music in Harare.Masikinye said that same year, he was fortunate enough to meet Sabastian Magacha and Thembalami.
“Magacha told me that even when I felt like wanting to give up, and losing hope, I had to keep on pushing.
“He urged me to have faith and hope no matter the challenges and hardships of life,” he said.
He is currently in the studio working on his forthcoming single titled ‘Musacheme’, a song he dedicates to his sister who passed away in December.”
Hopefully, it will be out next week if all goes according to plan,” said Masikinye.
His manager, Donald Chitanha, heaped praise on Masikinye.
“He is a serious man when it comes to singing. Masikinye is a young artist who needs full support to realise his dreams.
“I recognised his musical talent while I was worshipping at Evangelical Church and my wish is to see him doing great things and being elevated in his gospel career.”
