MUSICIANS have been urged to take a leaf from Alick Macheso, who attracted a full house at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex, where he successfully launched his 12th album, ‘‘Tinosvitswa Nashe’’.
The auditorium was packed to the rafters with thousands being turned away after the venue was oversubscribed.
The launch coincided with his 54th birthday.
H-Metro interviewed some of the musicians, who commended the album launch as a triumph, and a new chapter in local showbiz.
Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria, who weaned off Macheso, was impressed by his former student’s achievements.
“Musicians should just associate with those people with money.
“There is a need to share our problems with those who are rich so that when the need arises, we get assistance.
“When launching an album, or doing anything related, you need to look for a good venue, which suits your capability,” he said.
Added Madzibaba:
“There is also a need to interact with other senior artists in the industry.
“We should also be in good books with the media, who can hype the events.
“There is also need to talk to the radio guys who can give you airplay.
“In this case, the media hyped the event to their best ability, while genuine sponsors’ input was evident.”
Allan Chimbetu said proper planning was needed when hosting such events.
“The launch was well prepared and this is an indication that there is need for sponsors to assist us.
“If you have people who support you and sponsor you, zvobuda mushe.
“If we want to come out with something big, we need to support each other.
“Macheso had moral support and, in such cases, we need to rally behind each other’s back,” he said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Suluman Chimbetu, who performed at the event.
“Chakanaka chakanaka, mdara Macheso did a splendid job. We should take a leaf from the album launch.
“He set an example and there is need to take some notes from this one,” conceded the Orchestra Dendera Kings boss.
