MY deepest and heartfelt condolences go to the entire Chivayo family following the tragic and heartbreaking passing of Sir Wicknell Chivayo, his beloved wife Lucy, and the other souls who perished in that devastating helicopter accident.
There are moments when words simply fail us.
This is one of them.
Wicknell Chivayo lived a life that was impossible to ignore.
He was a man of enormous ambition, extraordinary energy, generosity and vision.
His journey touched the worlds of business, sport, music, the Church, philanthropy and national development. His generosity reached people from all walks of life.
And, perhaps one of the most profound testimonies of his life is what we are witnessing in his death.
In his passing, Wicknell has brought people together.
People who may have stood on different sides of society are today standing together in grief.
Business leaders, church leaders, musicians, sports personalities, ordinary citizens and leaders of nations have joined their voices in mourning.
President Mnangagwa personally visited the Chivayo family and spoke about Wicknell as his friend and of the profound national loss his passing represents.
Across our borders, Kenya’s President William Ruto mourned his dear friend, remembering Wicknell for his friendship, energy and belief in the possibilities of Africa.
Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan also expressed her sorrow, describing Wicknell as a young and visionary entrepreneur who touched many lives, and extending condolences to the Chivayo family and the people of Zimbabwe.
When leaders of nations, people of faith, business communities, artists, athletes and ordinary citizens all pause to mourn one individual, it speaks to the breadth of the life he lived and the number of people he encountered along the way.
But beyond the wealth, the cars, the business, the public profile and the headlines, there was a human being – a husband, a family man, a friend, a son and a brother.
And that is where our hearts must ultimately rest.
Life is temporary. Legacy is what remains.
Wicknell’s life reminds us that whatever we possess, whatever heights we reach and whatever influence we accumulate, our greatest measure is ultimately found in the lives we touch and the seeds we leave behind.
May the Chivayo family find strength in this incredibly painful hour.
May God comfort Lucy’s and Wicknell’s loved ones, and may He grant strength to every family affected by this terrible tragedy.
To the Chivayo family I say mourn, but mourn with hope.
Cry, but remember the laughter. Grieve, but remember the lives touched.
For a life that touched so many cannot simply disappear.
The memories remain. The generosity remains. The lessons remain. The dreams remain.
And, more importantly, the legacy remains.
Sir Wicknell Chivayo – you lived boldly, dreamed greatly, gave generously and touched many lives.
A life well lived. A story that ended too soon. A legacy that must live on.
May Almighty God grant Wicknell, Lucy and all those who perished eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
To the Chivayo family, may God hold you, strengthen you and carry you through this darkest hour.
