A man from Zaka whose prison term spans centuries

OUR Mampara of the Week is none other than 50-year-old armed robbery enthusiast Daniel Munyanyi.

Last week, this moron, who was already sitting on a 62-year jail sentence, found himself in the dock again before Masvingo magistrate Innocent Bepura.

Most criminals who might be handed such a hefty sentence would simply accept that they are now full-time residents of the prison system.

They would probably pick a hobby, learn to bake bread and accept that their grandchildren will visit them on weekends. But not Daniel.

Last week, he picked up an additional 77 years in the slammer.

Let that sink in for a moment.

So, for his transgressions, he will be a guest of the State for the next 139 years, meaning he will only finish his sentence in 2165, when he will be 199 years old.

Surely, by that time, we will probably have flying cars, cities on Mars, alien friends and robots doing all our work.

But wait, folks.

There is a kicker.

On March 20, Daniel will be back in court again facing charges of fatally shooting two Harare homicide police detectives.

So, this imbecile shot dead the guys who investigate people who shoot people?

Shooting homicide detectives is like burning down the fire station.

It is, quite frankly, foolish.

It is, therefore, not surprising that Daniel now has a jail term that spans centuries.

If he gets another heavy prison sentence, he might probably be checking out of the prison in the next century, that is, if he is immortal.
