The Government has implored academia to proffer solutions to challenges facing the nation for development and desist from merely critiquing.
Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Professor Amon Murwira made the plea recently during the send-off ceremony of a senior director in the ministry, who retired last week.
Mrs Martha Muguti, director responsible for higher education programmes of all universities, retired after serving the Government for 42 years.
All universities’ vice chancellors in the country were invited while some from outside Harare participated virtually.
Minister Murwira reminded them that they have an important role to play in nation building other than critiquing.
“The message that has to be driven home is that the only expressive way to develop this country is through higher learning.
“We cannot just say our role is to critique without proffering solutions. We have to proffer solutions and help in nation building through universities,” said Minister Murwira.
Of late the academia has been composed of rabid critics who criticise at the slightest of opportunity but negating their important role of giving advice and solutions to problems. participated in a number of innovations.
