Acoustic Nights’ belated fifth anniversary celebrations will be held tonight at Mistys located in Newlands.
The event will bring together musicians, comedians and poets from all over Zimbabwe.
Accoustic Nights founder Tariro neGitare said there will be guest performances from regulars including Raven Mazwi, Munya Nyamarebvu and herself.
“We always celebrate our own, so we will have performances by Acoustic Nights regulars and guest appearances from Raven Mazwi, Munya Nyamarebvu, Probeatz and Kachena Jam amongst others,” she said.
The guitarist encouraged people to come in their numbers to celebrate the birthday party.
“It’s a bit belated but we will celebrate it anyway. The Acoustic Night turned 5 years on 14 May 2015 and we would like music lovers to come in their numbers and join us as we celebrate this special day in true Acoustic Night fashion,” she said.
She also said the celebrations will usher a new project from their very own regular Nyamarebvu.
“We will also be unleashing an outreach project by one of our own Munya Nyamarebvu who will be spearheading a similar concept at Pakare paye called ‘Play it for Pakare’, also meant to develop talent with the support of our ambassador Oliver Mtukudzi,” she said.
Acoustic Nights have hosted artists like Prayersoul, standup comedian Carl Ncube and Nyamarebvu. Tariro neGitare has influenced this unique initiative which started in 2010 after a series of rounding up musicians, poets and comedians.
She also owes the fruition of her own career to the monthly event called the Wildfire Acoustic Nights. She made her debut solo performance at Harare International Festival of the Arts in 2012 through the Acoustic Nights project. She has been supported by the Zimbabwe German Society to promote local artists. Her music comprises of an original mix of indigenous African sounds and contemporary urban styles with a strong afro soul feel and evident influences from Oliver Mtukudzi and Freshly Ground. Tariro has shared the stage with some of Zimbabwe’s finest musicians including Stella Chiweshe, Alexio Kawara,Victor Kunonga, Chiwoniso Maraire, Dudu Manhenga, Oliver Mtukudzi and Alick Macheso amongst others.
