Acting President donates mobile X-ray machine

ACTING President Dr Constantino Chiwenga yesterday donated a mobile diagnostic X-ray machine that he sourced from China using his personal resources to First Lady and Angel of Hope Foundation patron Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa in recognition of her sterling efforts in championing health issues in the country.

The machine is the first of its kind in Zimbabwe.

Speaking during the handover of the donation to the First Lady yesterday, Dr Chiwenga said there was need to equip public hospitals with modern equipment to ensure access to health facilities by all.

“We want to provide our doctors with the modern equipment in public health institutions. I sourced the equipment after the realisation of the good work being carried out by the First Lady through her Angel of Hope Foundation. She will donate the mobile diagnostic X-ray machine to a public hospital of her choice. We want Angel of Hope to be the angel of reality,” he said.

Speaking after receiving the donation, Amai Mnangagwa, who is also the country’s Health and Child Care Ambassador, commended the gesture by the Acting President.

“I am really humbled by the donation made by the Acting President Dr Chiwenga. We expect everyone to contribute immensely towards a good health delivery system in the country.

“We are extremely grateful for this wonderful gift from our Acting President,’’ she said.

The First Lady has been instrumental in promoting health awareness among women through her cancer awareness campaigns across the country which saw over 100 000 women undergoing cervical cancer screening last year.

Amai Mnangagwa initiated the national cancer awareness campaigns after engaging the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

She led by example when she got screened for cervical and breast cancer at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), as a way of motivating other women to do the same.

The First Lady has intensified the fight against the silent killer disease by taking the awareness campaign to all the country’s 10 provinces where she has been having interactive sessions with women from different communities.
