Acting President Dr Constantino Chiwenga is this afternoon expected to lead an Anti-Drug and Substance Abuse Campaign in Zororai, Highfield high-density suburb as part of the Government’s deliberate strategy to raise awareness on the scourge.

As part of the campaign, Dr Chiwenga will lead a march in the area before making an address.

The campaign is meant to raise awareness and consciousness about the major challenges of illicit drugs on society.

One of the objectives is to mobilise support and inspire people to act against drug abuse.

The campaign comes after the Cabinet approved the National Drug and Substance Abuse Control and Enforcement Agency Bill, whose primary objective is to establish a specialised National Drug and Substance Abuse Control and Enforcement Agency.

The agency is tasked with enforcing laws related to drug trafficking and substance abuse.

This initiative responds to the growing concern of widespread drug peddling, fuelled by organised networks with sophisticated international distribution systems and the alarming rise in drug and substance abuse.
