Acting President Nkomo meets UN representative

Mr Alain Noudehou at his Munhumutapa Offices yesterday and discussed the world body’s support to the national healing process.
Co-ministers in the Organ on National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration Sekai Holland and Moses Mzila-Ndlovu also attended the meeting.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting Mr Noudehou said they discussed how the UN could continue supporting the national healing process.
“The meeting was a courtesy meeting and an opportunity to meet with the Organ on National Healing.
“We discussed their work and how the UN can assist them,” he said.
Mr Noudehou said the UN had assisted the Organ with resources in setting up its work.
“We also discussed how the work can move further forward and in coming up with a national strategic meeting,” he said.
The Organ was set up by the parties in the inclusive Government to foster reconciliation among Zimbabweans following the violence that characterised the 2008 general elections.
The Organ yesterday urged political parties to restrain their supporters following recent incidences of violence that rocked some parts of the country.
“The Organ on National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration is gravely concerned with the recent resurgence of flashes of political violence much of it reported particularly in Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland West and Masvingo Provinces,” reads the statement.
The Organ also appealed to Zanu PF and the MDC-T to call on their members to desist from violence and urged traditional leaders to do the same in their communities.
“The Organ also appeals to traditional leaders those of faith based organisations and civil society groups, particularly the chiefs, the headmen and church leaders to unite together, work with their respective communities to stop all forms of violence including the inclination to the use of hate language,” the Organ said in the statement.
