A 63-year-old elder at Apostolic Faith Mission in Chitungwiza abandoned his cancer-ailing wife and started a relationship with a younger woman whose husband he beat up after he had visited his children. He has been fined $100.
Enock Ndongwe (63) of 14896 Unit O was a church-mate with Learnmore Janhi (43) of 3386 Glen Norah A, Harare, and his wife, Caroline Musawi of Unit P.
Ndongwe left his ailing wife home and had an illicit affair with Musawi. The court heard that the extra-marital affair created problems for Janhi and his wife Musawi that led to their divorce.
On September 5 this year, Ndongwe visited Musawi at her house and clashed with Janhi who had visited his children who were staying with their mother.
The two clashed after Janhi asked Ndongwe what he was doing in the house after he found him in the sitting room.
This angered Ndongwe, who picked up an unknown object and attacked Janhi on his hand and threatened to stab him with a knife.
Janhi sustained a cut after the assault and reported the matter to the police leading to Ndongwe’s arrest.
Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo, Ndongwe denied assault charges.
He was found guilty after prosecutor Mr Tatenda Mukatera proved a strong case against him.
Mr Murendo fined him $100 (or one month).
In addition, Ndongwe was slapped with a
wholly suspended two-month jail term.
In sentencing him, Mr Murendo said Ndongwe’s behaviour was irritating since he was an elderly person who should lead by example.
