A WORKER at Gweru Africa Bet allegedly stole more than $2,000 from the bookmaker.
Abeauty Matizha Sibanda, 23, of Mkoba Village 12 in Gweru appeared on initial remand before Gweru Magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda facing a theft charge.
The magistrate did not ask Sibanda to plead and remanded him out of custody on $100 bail to Monday.
Magistrate Chibanda told Sibanda not to interfere with State witnesses until the matter is finalised.
Sibanda had pleaded with the court to grant him bail.
He said he was a visiting Psychology student at Midlands State University (MSU) and was due to write semester-end examinations next month.
Prosecuting, Lloyd Mavhisa told the court that on April 20 at around 2PM, Sibanda was at his work place operating a golden race system machine.
The court heard that a spot check was carried out by his supervisor, Fadzai Tapera and the machine was recording that there was $2,067 in cash but Sibanda was found with only $10.
The prosecutor told the court that Tapera reported the matter to the company’s Regional Executive, Clement Gwari, who apprehended Sibanda and took him to the police station where he was arrested.
Of the $2,067 that was allegedly stolen, nothing was recovered.
