Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening governance and promoting regional integration during the official launch of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Harare.

Speaking at the launch, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and APRM Zimbabwe Focal Point, Ambassador Albert Ranganai Chimbindi, also expressed the Government’s steadfast commitment to further promoting regional integration and advancing sustainable social and economic transformation.

He said the country’s efforts were firmly rooted in the vision and leadership of President Mnangagwa, whom he said has consistently demonstrated his fidelity to the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe and his conviction that governance must be anchored in the rule of law, accountability and citizen participation.

Ambassador Chimbindi noted that the review process provides an invaluable opportunity for the country to take an in-depth and evidence-based look at our economic governance systems, identifying strengths, addressing challenges, and ensuring that our policies promote inclusive growth and social equity.

In his remarks, Ambassador Aly El-Hefny, who is the APRM panel of eminent persons lead panel member for Zimbabwe, said the review would identify achievements, challenges and innovations in economic governance, enrich the review report with accurate data and generate actionable recommendations for Zimbabwe’s reforms and Africa-wide peer learning.

He added: “The APRM is a mutual support mechanism grounded in African solidarity. We commend your openness and professionalism and look forward to continued collaboration as we work together for transparent, accountable and inclusive governance.”

The review process will run until November 18.
