The Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) is on track in meeting the targets as prescribed by the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
In its development schemes, the AFZ has gone on a drive to upgrade its infrastructure to modern forms of architecture that comprise its health care centres, rehabilitation of its messes and its training institutions among other essential utilities.
The drive is aimed at ensuring that the quality of service delivery reaches the highest notch.
The Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe, Air Marshal Elson Moyo, has emphasised that aligning the AFZ’s efforts in infrastructure rehabilitation with the NSD1 is a monumental task that is going to see the organisation reaching new heights.
With the projected national vision to achieve an upper middle-income economy by 2030, consolidation of a network of state-of-the art infrastructure becomes instrumental.
The AFZ has so far made strides in the construction of its utilities such as Manyame Air Force Base Hospital Extension, Jason Ziyaphapha Moyo (JZM) Air Force Base Gallery Range and JZM Officers’ Mess, among other projects.
The commitment to upgrade this infrastructure will allow the AFZ to meet its mandate which is to defend the air space and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
It will subsequently make the AFZ realise its vision as conditions of service and service delivery will be met diligently.
Air Marshal Moyo commented that the AFZ was a step closer towards the attainment of the vision to have “a small, well equipped, robust and hard-hitting air force capable of effectively defending Zimbabwe’s airspace with a well-trained workforce”.
This can be realised when such efforts in line with NDS1 are undertaken.
There is an inevitable correlation between the security sector and the economic environment that it is mandated to protect.
Air Marshal Moyo revealed that working with the available resources was the best way to go for the realisation of a conducive environment for the attainment of vision 2030.
He explained that it was high time efforts to work resiliently, working hard, innovatively and the optimal utilisation of resources at disposal were harnessed.
“In addition to guaranteeing a peaceful and conducive environment for economic development, the Air Force of Zimbabwe has contributed to the attainment of Vision 2030 through a number of activities such as border patrol operations along the Zimbabwe-South Africa perimeter to curb smuggling,” he said.
With the progress made so far, the drive towards infrastructure upgrading will lay a foundation of fruitful workmanship in terms of the quality of service delivery in the organisation.
