A DECADE after producing one of the top strikers in the form of former Premiership Golden Boot winner Clive Augusto, the farming town of Mt Darwin returns to the ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League with Agama FC for the 2024 season.

Agama hail from Mt. Darwin where Augusto made a mark as a 21-year-old with Darwin United before he was snapped up by Ngezi Platinum whom he helped gain promotion.  He later on played for Chicken Inn and then crossed over to South Africa’s Maritzburg United before he returned home to join CAPS United.

Agama FC will certainly want to produce another player in the form of Augusto. The modest side, formed in 2022, competed in the Mt Darwin social league where they managed to win the championship under their head coach Patson Muzawazi and Edson Neshamba as assistant.

The team went on to join Mashonaland Central Division Two A Soccer League in 2023 where they managed to finish as the log leaders and then went on to upstage Mashonaland Central Division Two B leaders Zambezi Coal and Gas in play offs to be crowned champions.

Norman Gutsa, Agama FC team manager, said they were in the Northern Region to compete and fight for promotion to the Premier League.

“We are happy to have gained promotion to the ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League and we are here to compete not to add numbers. The team has been training hard during the off-season as we prepare for the 2024 season.

“Agama FC was formed in 2022 as a social side but we have managed to progress through the hurdles and we are now in the second tier league.

“The team is sponsored by Mt Darwin businessman Malvern Moyo and his wife Anne Antonio, Mt Darwin town council, Mt Darwin community and Mapiye.

“Our preparations are almost 85 percent completes as we have brought on board several experienced players on the fold.”

Agama FC has managed to bring on board several players who have Division One experience.

“As we prepare we have managed to bring in players like Langton Tauzen, Malvern Nyauyanga and Shadreck Chikwenga from Trojan Stars, goalkeeper Nomore Jones and Tawananyasha Didoro from Simba Bhora.

“We have a mixture of experience and upcoming youngsters like Ralph Nyamupukuta who will be one to look forward in the upcoming season. We are hopeful of bringing back some good old days to Mt Darwin’s Pfura Stadium which last had Darwin United back in 2013,” added Gutsa.
